Why are you getting a bark collar for a 4 month old Border Collie!?

Border Collies are herding dogs. End of story. If you cannot provide the mental stimulation and training that this dog absolutely must have you need to rehome it. Border Collies are not for apartment living and in my opinion should ONLY be homed on a farm or place similar.

You shouldn’t be using a bark collar on such a small puppy. It is not a hard headed dog you just have not trained him properly. Border collies are intelligent dogs and always want to please so are easy to train. As long as you started from the moment you had gotten him and always been the dominant one over him you should never have any problems. He see’s you as being weaker and therefore won’t listen to you. I have a border and the moment she makes one tiny bark (which is very rare) i will go outside and she will already be lying on her back being submissive because she has done the wrong thing. If you need any training tips i am happy to help.

a bark collar for my 4 month old that’s sound kind of sad. There are more humane ways like training, but don`t forget he is trying to protect your home

Your puppy is barking because the poor thing is bored and needs work to do.

Also, at 4 months your puppy has not established dominance, thats your job to show him you are the dominant one, not him. If hes already “dominant” then you are seriously doing something wrong with your training.

Work your dog. There are places EVERYWHERE that do herding for fun and herding training for pups and adults, I STRONGLY recommend you getting into that. If you poor little puppy is bored already, you need to do something or this will be a very hard to handle adult.

P.S. herding dogs are always hard headed… you just need to be more stubborn… trust me… I breeding herding dogs. :)

If you feel you NEED a collar, wait until about 12 months. Because of his age and small size, the shock can do serious physical damage and the citronella can affect their senses so strongly he can have a very adverse reaction to it. I don’t recommend a collar to you AT ALL, but it’s your dog… if you need to have a collar to train your dog… something is wrong, but thats your decision, I can only offer my input.

    Good luck.

Are you insane? You don’t need a bark collar for your puppy, you need to be out working with it every single second of the day that you are not actually at work or sleeping.

You picked an independent-minded, highly-intelligent, extremely energetic, hard-working herding dog. Of course he’s “hard-headed” – he has hundreds of generations of breeding to make him that way.

You have a tremendous responsibility to do right by this dog. Get it into puppy obedience, followed by basic obedience. Then look into activities that will channel his natural talents and abilities, like agility, “fly dog”, search and rescue, or SOMETHING.

If you can’t handle it, surrender it to a rescue group who will find a proper home for it.
